QUESTION

═══════════════════════════════════════════

Every Saturday I publish my paper sprint in public. Twenty trades, every one of them logged, wins and losses in the open.

And most weeks someone asks the same thing: why is that trade marked “Saved” when it lost money? Or: why does that row show Sunday’s date when the market was closed? Or the big one — your Sprint R is basically flat, so why do you keep calling it a pass?

Fair questions. All of them come from reading the log like a P&L statement. It isn’t one.

───────────────────────────────────────────

THE PRINCIPLE

───────────────────────────────────────────

The Sprint Log measures compliance, not profit.

The graduation bar from paper to live capital is ≥90% process compliance across the sprint. Eighteen of twenty trades opened and closed in full accordance with the plan. That is the entire test.

Sprint R sits in the log as information only. A sprint that ends at +4R with sloppy execution is a fail. A sprint that ends at −2R with every rule honoured is a pass. Twenty trades is far too small a sample to say anything reliable about edge — but it’s exactly the right sample to say something reliable about me. The system was proven before the sprint. My execution of it wasn’t.

That’s why the log looks strange to anyone scanning for the R column first. The R column is the least important number on the page.

───────────────────────────────────────────

THE COLUMNS

───────────────────────────────────────────

DATE

The day the order was placed — the evening before. Not the day it filled. Not the day it exited.

Everything in KISS is decided the night before, when the market is shut and nothing is moving. That’s the whole point of the system: the decision is made in a calm room, and the next session just executes it. So the log timestamps the decision, not the outcome. A row dated Sunday means the order was armed Sunday evening for Monday’s session.

ENTRY / STOP / R:R

The levels as they stood when the order was placed. Entry is the DAY buy stop-limit sitting just above the previous session’s high. Stop is the Retest Shield — anchored beneath the original breakout structure, and it does not move up to follow price.

RESULT / R

Outcome in R-multiples. Information only. See above.

LVTD

The end-of-day volume gate. Three possible states:

→ Confirmed — volume showed up by the 15:45 ET check. Position held overnight, managed normally.

→ Saved — volume didn’t show up. Mandatory market sell at 15:55 ET. The trade closes small, green or red, and the overnight gap risk goes to zero. “Saved” doesn’t mean profitable. It means a possible −1R was converted into a fraction of one.

→ Failed — the entry triggered and price hit the stop the same session. The designed loss. Roughly −1R, exactly as budgeted.

PROCESS COMPLIANCE

The only column that decides graduation. Which rules were followed. Which broke. Written honestly or the log is worthless.

───────────────────────────────────────────

THE LOGGING RULE

───────────────────────────────────────────

This is where most people get lost, so here it is cleanly.

One setup = one row.

A row exists only when a trade fills. No fill, no row. If I arm an order and price never trades through the trigger, nothing gets logged. It never became a trade. Numbering a non-event as trade #7 pads the sprint with rows that test nothing — and the sprint is a test of execution, not of how many orders I placed.

(Note: this is a revision. Earlier in Sprint 1 I logged no-fills as their own numbered rows. That was wrong — it inflated the count without adding a single compliance data point. Sprint 2 runs the corrected rule.)

Re-arming the same setup does not create a new row. The DAY-Order Loop means the order is cancelled at the close and re-placed each evening at the new session’s high + buffer. Same setup, same base, same thesis — the trigger price just ratchets. Five evenings of re-arming is one order, not five trades.

A new row only when the setup re-qualifies from a fresh base. If a setup gets sent to the No-Trade Zone — ceiling breached, structure broken — and later builds a new consolidation and re-qualifies, that’s a genuinely new trade. New row.

───────────────────────────────────────────

WHY IT’S PUBLIC

───────────────────────────────────────────

Because a log you can quietly edit isn’t a log.

The book asks readers to run a 20-trade sprint before touching real capital. It would be hollow to ask that and not do it in the open, with the ugly rows included. Sprint 1’s worst trade sits in the tracker with the rule I broke — nothing — and the −1R I budgeted for, right there next to the winners.

If the process only holds when it’s flattering, it isn’t a process. It’s a highlight reel.

───────────────────────────────────────────

THE TAKEAWAY

───────────────────────────────────────────

Read the Sprint Log left to right, not right to left. Its price isn’t ultimately

driven by chart structure — it’s driven by binary events: trial data

readouts, FDA decisions, pipeline news. Any of those can gap the stock 20,

30, 40% overnight, in either direction, with no warning on the chart.

Here’s the problem that matters for us: our entire risk framework has one

blind spot, and biotech drives a truck through it. The LVTD gate protects

you from low-volume fakeouts. Your stop protects you from an orderly

decline. Neither protects you from a gap. A

clinical-stage biotech can hand you a multi-R loss between two sessions,

and there’s no rule in the system that stops it. That’s not a knock on

BEAM. It’s an honest map of where our armor has a hole.

═══════════════════════════════════════════

REASON 2 — WHAT THE VOLATILITY IS TELLING YOU

═══════════════════════════════════════════

BEAM’s 20-day ADR% is 7.71% — the most volatile name we’ve looked at in

weeks. Under v3, the dynamic ceiling adapts (1.5 × 7.71% ≈ 11.6%), so the

math still “works.” But the ceiling adapting is not the ceiling approving.

A near-8% average daily range is the stock telling you, in its own

language, that it moves like a small boat in a big sea. The wide stop that

volatility forces means a tiny position — which means even when you’re

“right,” the reward is small, and when you’re wrong on a gap, the small

position is the only thing that saved you. It’s a

hand-picked, discretionary “I like this one” name. And discretion is

exactly what a mechanical system exists to remove.

The moment you start adding names because they’re appealing rather than

because the process surfaced them, you’ve reopened the door the system was

built to close. One discretionary pick feels harmless. It’s the tenth one

— the one you take on conviction, oversized, on a day you “just know” —

that does the damage. The discipline isn’t in refusing bad charts. Anyone

can do that. It’s in refusing good charts that don’t fit.

═══════════════════════════════════════════

SO IF YOU STILL WANT IT — HOW TO CAGE IT

═══════════════════════════════════════════

Here’s the honest other half. Passing on BEAM as a core position doesn’t

mean it’s untouchable. It means it can only exist in the smallest, most

tightly caged slot you have — a defined-risk speculation, never core size.

If you take it, these are the rails:

→ Entry: DAY buy stop ~35.84 (prior high + $0.05), on a volume break.

→ Stop: ~32.30 (Retest Shield, below the handle). Risk ~9.9% — under the

11.6% ceiling, but wide, so the position is deliberately small.

→ Size: the SMALLEST on your book. This is a spec slot, not a leader.

→ LVTD: Friday read 0.95x — not confirmed. It has to earn the volume.

→ Catalyst awareness: check the earnings/data calendar (earnings ~early

Aug) and accept that pipeline news can hit anytime. If you’re not

comfortable holding through an unscheduled gap, don’t hold it overnight.

That’s the cage. A tiny, defined-risk, volume-confirmed, eyes-open spec —

not a line item next to your RS-99 rotation leaders.

═══════════════════════════════════════════

THE TAKEAWAY

═══════════════════════════════════════════

BEAM is a beautiful chart attached to a risk profile our system is built

to avoid. 90% OF RETAIL people don’t lose in the market because they’re not smart enough.

They lose because they have no process.

They buy a tip from a friend. They chase a stock because it was on the

news. They “feel” that something is going up. Every decision is made in

the moment, under pressure, driven by emotion — and the market punishes

exactly that.

Professionals do the opposite. They don’t predict. They don’t guess. They

run every potential trade through a fixed grid of filters, and if the

trade doesn’t clear every filter, they don’t take it. No exceptions. No

“just this once.”

That’s what the KISS system is: a clinical, mechanical grid that turns the

chaos of the market into a binary question — YES or NO. Take the trade, or

stand aside. Nothing in between.

It rests on three pillars. Miss any one of them, and the trade is a no.

═══════════════════════════════════════════

PILLAR 1 — MARKET REGIME

“Never swim against the current.”

═══════════════════════════════════════════

Before we look at a single stock, we ask one question: which way is the

tide going?

No trader — however good — beats a hostile market for long. A great setup

in a falling market is a losing trade waiting to happen. So the first

filter is the biggest one: is the broader market healthy?

We look at the major indices — the S&P 500, the Nasdaq 100 — and the macro

backdrop of rates and inflation behind them. When the indices are in a

clean, rising uptrend (what technicians call Stage 2), the wind is at our

back. When they’re not, the professional does the hardest thing in

trading: nothing.

→ Aligned market = green light to hunt setups.

→ Broken or choppy market = hands off, capital protected.

This single filter keeps you out of the environments where most accounts

bleed out. How we grade the regime week to week is its own process — but

the principle is simple: never fight the current.

═══════════════════════════════════════════

PILLAR 2 — STRUCTURE & COMPRESSION

“Buy strength, not weakness.”

═══════════════════════════════════════════

Amateurs try to catch falling knives — buying stocks that are dropping

because they “look cheap.” Professionals do the reverse. We buy strength,

at the exact moment it’s about to accelerate.

The KISS system hunts two structures:

→ BOS (Break of Structure): price cleanly breaking above a level that has

capped it for weeks — the moment a ceiling becomes a floor.

→ PCP (Price Contraction Pattern): a stock winding tighter and tighter in

a series of shrinking pullbacks, coiling energy like a spring under

pressure. The tighter the coil, the more explosive the release.

And here’s the discipline that separates us from the crowd: we never chase

price. Entry is placed as a passive Stop-Limit order ABOVE the structure,

set the evening before. The market has to come up and trigger us into the

trade. If it doesn’t reach our level, we simply don’t get in.

You don’t run after the bus. You wait at the stop, and you let it come to

you.

═══════════════════════════════════════════

PILLAR 3 — RISK MATH & INSTITUTIONAL PROOF

“How you survive the long game.”

═══════════════════════════════════════════

The first two pillars find the trade. The third is the one that keeps you

in business for years instead of months.

Two things matter here:

→ Asymmetric Risk/Reward. Every trade is structured so the potential

reward is at least twice the risk — a minimum of 1:2. Get this right and

you can be wrong more often than you’re right and still come out ahead.

This is the math that makes losing trades survivable.

→ Institutional validation. A breakout only matters if the big players —

the smart money — are actually behind it. Price alone lies; a stock can

poke above a level on nothing and collapse the next day. So the system

runs an internal end-of-day check on the trade: a mechanical filter that

tells you whether the move was funded by real volume, or whether it was

a fakeout dressed up as a breakout.

If the volume isn’t there, the trade doesn’t earn the right to stay on.

That one rule — the boring, unglamorous exit — is what protects the

account from the traps that catch everyone else. How it’s calibrated is

under the hood. What it does is simple: it separates the real moves from

the lies.

═══════════════════════════════════════════

THE REAL EDGE ISN’T THE SYSTEM

═══════════════════════════════════════════

Here’s the uncomfortable truth: the system doesn’t fail. People fail —

because they can’t follow the system when it’s inconvenient.

They skip the regime filter because they’re bored. They chase price

because they’re afraid of missing out. They hold a no-volume breakout

overnight because “this one feels different.” Every one of those is a

human overriding a rule that was working.

The edge was never a secret indicator. The edge is three fixed filters,

applied the same way every single time — especially when it’s

uncomfortable.

So here’s the challenge: stop guessing the market’s direction. Start

building your own fixed rules — a regime filter, a structure you’ll buy,

a risk ratio you won’t break — and then have the discipline to follow them

when every instinct says otherwise.

That’s the whole game. Define the rules. Trust the process. Let the

outcomes take care of themselves.

───────────────────────────────────────────

This is the framework we run every week at KISS Trading — the exact

regimes, setups, and trade plans, published every Sunday on the Substack.

And if you want the complete foundation the whole system is built on, it’s

all in the book: How to Swing Trade Stocks in 30 Minutes a Day.

───────────────────────────────────────────

⚠️ Educational only. mechanical system has one rule its users quietly resent. In KISS,

it’s LVTD.

Not because it’s complicated — it’s the simplest rule we have. You resent

it because it’s the only rule that regularly acts against you in a way you

can SEE, while protecting you in a way you can’t. It makes you sell when

part of you wants to hold. It sometimes takes you out for a small LOSS on

a trade that “might have worked.” And it asks you to do this again and

again, mechanically, on faith.

This article is about why that discomfort is not a flaw in the rule. It’s

the entire reason the rule works. And this week handed me four live

examples — two saves, one small green exit, and one exit taken at a loss —

so I’m going to show you all four, exactly as they happened.

═══════════════════════════════════════════

WHAT LVTD ACTUALLY ASKS OF YOU

═══════════════════════════════════════════

A quick refresher. A breakout only means something if institutions are

buying it. But your broker fills you on PRICE, intraday, long before the

day’s VOLUME is known. So you can be “in” a breakout that nobody is

actually funding.

LVTD closes that gap. On the day you get filled, at 15:45 ET you check

cumulative volume against 1.5× the 20-day average. If it’s there, the move

is real — you hold. If it’s not, you sell at market at 15:55 ET. Green or

red. No discretion.

Read that last part again: green OR RED. The gate doesn’t care whether

you’re up or down when it fires. You act BEFORE you know how the story

ends — which means you will sometimes take a small loss on a trade that,

in hindsight, might have recovered. The rule accepts that trade. Most

traders can’t. That’s the whole psychological problem in one sentence.

═══════════════════════════════════════════

THE (RIOT)

RIOT filled. By 15:45 ET the volume wasn’t there — the gate read below

1.5×. So I sold at 15:55 ET, and I sold at a LOSS: −0.47R. Sitting there,

closing a position in the red because “the volume is light,” while the

chart still looks fine, is the single hardest click in the system. Every

instinct says give it one night to work.

COST #2 — CUTTING A GREEN TRADE SHORT (MD)

MD broke out, filled, and again the volume failed the gate. I exited five

minutes before the close for +0.17R. A tiny green — the kind of result

that feels like leaving money on the table. Why sell a winner over

“volume”?

Both of these are REAL costs. One cost me part of an R; the other cost me

the feeling of letting a winner run. I’m not going to pretend LVTD is

free. It isn’t. It has a price, and this week I paid it twice, in public.

═══════════════════════════════════════════

THE COSTS YOU CAN’T SEE (AND WHY THEY’RE BIGGER)

═══════════════════════════════════════════

Now the other side of the same week: NVT and ETN.

Both filled. Both failed the volume gate. Both got the same mechanical

15:55 exit — booked at +0.29R and +0.15R. And here’s the part you almost

never get to see: both of those stocks are now trading BELOW the stops I

would have been holding overnight. If I’d “given them room,” both would

have been clean −1R losses, maybe worse on a gap. The gate turned two

−1R traps into two small wins.

That’s the invisible benefit made visible for once. Normally you NEVER get

this proof. You exit on low volume, the stock quietly fades, and you never

feel the −1R you dodged — because it never hit your account. A loss that

doesn’t happen leaves no mark, no screenshot, no sting.

So look at the asymmetry across all four trades:

→ RIOT: visible −0.47R. But it capped a trade with no institutional

support before it could become a full −1R.

→ MD: visible +0.17R, felt like a “miss.”

→ NVT + ETN: two −1R losses that SILENTLY never happened.

The costs are loud, immediate, visible. The benefits are silent, delayed,

invisible. Your brain is built to overweight the loud thing and ignore the

silent one — that’s not a personal weakness, it’s every human’s default.

The entire job of a mechanical rule is to override that default for you.

═══════════════════════════════════════════

THE INSURANCE ANALOGY

═══════════════════════════════════════════

Think about insurance. Every month you pay a premium for a fire that

doesn’t come. Judged purely on visible outcomes, you’d cancel it — it

“wastes” money eleven months a year. But nobody sane cancels their fire

insurance the week before the fire, because you can’t know which week the

fire comes.

LVTD is insurance. RIOT’s −0.47R and MD’s cut-short winner ARE the

premium — small, regular, slightly annoying. NVT and ETN are the claim

you didn’t have to file, because the policy was already in force. You are

not paying to be right on every trade. You are paying so that no single

low-volume trap can take a full R out of your account.

A rule you only follow when it’s convenient is not insurance. It’s a

policy you cancelled the morning of the fire.

═══════════════════════════════════════════

THE DOOR STAYS OPEN

═══════════════════════════════════════════

Here’s what resolves the “but RIOT/MD might still run” pain: LVTD does not

kill the thesis. It ends ONE unconfirmed session, not the trade idea.

If a name you exited sets up again and breaks out on real volume, you get

back in. You miss the first, unfunded push — not the move.

But the door only opens for a NEW valid setup, never a chase. Take MD:

it’s now extended and overbought after two green days. Re-entering at

today’s price would push the R:R below 1:2 — so the same discipline that

got me OUT also stops me from jumping back in badly. The rule protects you

on both ends: it won’t let you hold a trap, and it won’t let you chase the

regret.

═══════════════════════════════════════════

WHY IT ONLY COUNTS WHEN IT HURTS

═══════════════════════════════════════════

Anyone can follow a rule that’s free. Holding a high-volume winner

overnight takes no willpower — the rule and your greed agree.

The system is defined entirely by what you do the day the rule COSTS you.

Selling RIOT at a −0.47R because the volume said so. Cutting MD green

instead of gambling on the overnight. Those clicks — the uncomfortable

ones — are the reps that separate a trader who HAS a system from a trader

who has a rulebook they abandon under pressure.

Following LVTD right after it just handed you a loss isn’t you being

rigid. It’s you proving — to the only person watching, which is you — that

the rule is real. Break it once because “this one’s obviously fine,” and

it stops being a system. It becomes a suggestion you overrule whenever you

feel confident. And feeling confident at exactly the wrong moment is how

most accounts die.

═══════════════════════════════════════════

THE TAKEAWAY

═══════════════════════════════════════════

This week LVTD cost me a −0.47R on RIOT and a cut-short winner on MD. It

also quietly saved me two −1R losses on NVT and ETN that I’ll never have

to feel.

I could not know in advance which trade would be which — so I followed the

gate on all four, identically, including the two where it hurt. is a small dropdown on every order ticket that most traders pick once and never touch again: duration. Good-Till-Cancelled, or Day. It looks like plumbing. It isn’t. For a PCP setup, that one choice quietly decides whether your system stays disciplined — or slowly rots while you aren’t looking.

Here is the case for letting your buy stop expire every single night.

═══════════════════════════════════════════

THE ORDER IS DOWNSTREAM OF THE STRUCTURE

═══════════════════════════════════════════

Every KISS buy stop exists for a reason, and the reason is never the order itself. It is the structure underneath it: a tight Wave 4 compression zone, a confirmed Volume Dry-Up, Stage 2 intact, the RS Line holding against SPY. That structure is the decision. The order is only the mechanism — the way you act on the decision without sitting in front of the screen at 2:30 PM.

This is the slip almost everyone makes: they start treating the order as the commitment. It isn’t. The order is a consequence. And a consequence should never outlive its cause.

Structures have a shelf life. Your order should inherit that shelf life — not pretend the structure is frozen in time the moment you placed it.

═══════════════════════════════════════════

WHAT CHANGES OVERNIGHT THAT A GTC NEVER SEES

═══════════════════════════════════════════

Leave a Good-Till-Cancelled buy stop sitting in the market and ask what it knows. The answer is: nothing. It does not read the chart. It cannot tell you that, since you placed it —

→ The 8 EMA flattened or rolled over. The momentum that was curling up has stalled.

→ A volume spike appeared on the wrong side. Distribution, where you wanted dry-up.

→ The RS Line cracked against SPY. The institutional preference that defined the setup is gone.

→ The stock gapped 4% above your trigger. The gap rule says walk away — but the GTC has never heard of the gap rule.

→ Earnings, an FDA ruling, or a surprise headline dropped into your hold window.

A GTC sits through all of it with its finger on the trigger, defending a thesis that may already be dead. It is loyal to a number, not to a setup.

═══════════════════════════════════════════

THE REAL COST ISN’T A MISSED TRADE — IT’S THE STALE FILL

═══════════════════════════════════════════

The quiet damage from GTC is not the trade you miss. It is the trade you take and shouldn’t have.

Picture it. You set a GTC on Monday evening. The setup looked clean — tight base, dry volume, everything stacked. Then the week gets busy and you don’t open the chart. By Thursday the base has widened, the 8 EMA has flattened, RS has slipped. None of it registers, because you haven’t looked and the order doesn’t care. Thursday afternoon, price finally tags your trigger. You’re filled.

Into a setup that no longer qualifies. Into a trade you would never have placed if you had simply looked at the chart that evening.

That is the trap in one sentence: GTC doesn’t just keep good setups alive — it keeps dead ones armed.

═══════════════════════════════════════════

THE HONEST CASE FOR GTC

═══════════════════════════════════════════

To be fair, GTC is not wrong everywhere. On long, durable bases — multi-month consolidations, slower large caps — the structure decays slowly, and a GTC spares you re-keying the same order for two weeks. A trader who genuinely cannot run a nightly check might reasonably accept the trade-off.

But the PCP is the opposite of durable. Its entire edge is tightness: a compressed Wave 4 on dried-up volume, supply exhausted, coiled. Tightness is fragile by definition. It degrades fast. The very quality that makes a PCP tradeable is the one thing GTC is worst at protecting.

For a tight PCP, the convenience of GTC buys you almost nothing — and costs you the discipline that makes the whole system work.

═══════════════════════════════════════════

THE HOUSE RULE — TWO DIALS, SET INDEPENDENTLY

═══════════════════════════════════════════

Order type and order duration are separate decisions on separate axes. You choose each on its own.

→ TYPE → Stop-Limit. This governs HOW you enter: it caps gap-up fills and controls slippage at the trigger (limit set just under the 3% gap-skip threshold).

→ DURATION → Day. This governs HOW LONG the thesis stays armed: one session, re-earned every evening.

Put together, the KISS entry is a Buy Stop-Limit, Day order, re-placed each evening — if, and only if, the setup still qualifies.

That re-placement is not busywork. It is the system forcing you to re-confirm the structure before you re-arm the trigger. A Day order makes you win the trade again every night. That isn’t friction to engineer away — that IS the discipline, made mechanical.

One practical note: a Day order expires at the close, so if a setup takes a few sessions to trigger, you re-place it each evening after the structure check. GTC did that “automatically” — which is precisely the problem. Automatic means unsupervised.

═══════════════════════════════════════════

THE LINE TO REMEMBER

═══════════════════════════════════════════

Order type answers HOW you get in. QUESTION

═══════════════════════════════════════════

The regime report says BULLISH CLEAR — full deployment. So you put 100% of your account into stocks, right?

No. And the gap between what most traders think “full deployment” means and what it actually means is one of the most expensive misunderstandings in trading.

Full deployment does not mean all your cash is in the market. It means all your permitted risk is in the market. Those are two completely different numbers — and confusing them is how accounts blow up in a single bad week.

───────────────────────────────────────────

THE PRINCIPLE — Two Numbers, Not One

───────────────────────────────────────────

Every open position has two separate measurements, and traders constantly conflate them:

CAPITAL DEPLOYED is how much of your money is tied up in shares. If you own $2,000 worth of a stock in a $10,000 account, your capital deployed on that position is 20%.

RISK EXPOSURE is how much you would actually lose if the trade hit its stop. If that same $2,000 position has a stop 5% below entry, your risk exposure is $100 — just 1% of the account.

Same position. Two completely different numbers: 20% deployed, 1% at risk.

The KISS system manages the second number — risk — not the first. You are not trying to fill your account with stocks. You are trying to deploy your full risk budget across high-quality setups.

───────────────────────────────────────────

THE METHOD — The Three Caps

───────────────────────────────────────────

Three hard limits govern every deployment decision. All three must hold simultaneously.

CAP 1 — Risk Per Trade: 0.75% (maximum 1%)

The most you lose on any single trade if the stop hits. This is your 1R. It never changes based on how confident you feel.

CAP 2 — Total Open Risk: 3% maximum

Add up the risk across all open positions. The sum can never exceed 3% of your account. At 0.75% per trade, that’s roughly four positions. Once you hit 3% total risk, you take no new trades — regardless of how good the next setup looks.

CAP 3 — Single Position Size: 25% maximum

No single position can exceed 25% of your account value, no matter how tight the stop is. This prevents one stock from dominating the account even when the math would allow a larger size.

The binding constraint is whichever cap you hit first. Usually it’s the 3% total risk cap — and that’s the one that defines “full deployment.”

───────────────────────────────────────────

WHAT FULL DEPLOYMENT ACTUALLY LOOKS LIKE

───────────────────────────────────────────

Here’s the math that surprises people. Take a $10,000 account at BULLISH CLEAR, fully deployed:

→ 4 positions, each risking 0.75% = 3% total risk (at the cap)

→ Each position has a stop roughly 5-7% below entry

→ Each position is therefore worth roughly 12-18% of the account

→ Total capital deployed: roughly 50-70%

→ Cash remaining: roughly 30-50%

Read that again. “Full deployment” at maximum permitted risk leaves you with 30-50% of your account in cash. That cash is not a failure to be invested. It is the natural result of sizing by risk instead of by capital.

If you forced that same account to 100% deployed, you’d either be holding positions with dangerously wide stops, or you’d be risking far more than 3% total — which means one bad week could take 5-6% out of your account instead of 3%.

───────────────────────────────────────────

THE REGIME TABLE

───────────────────────────────────────────

Deployment scales with the regime. Here’s the full picture:

BULLISH CLEAR

 Risk per trade: 0.75%

 Positions: up to 4

 Total risk: 3%

 Capital deployed: ~50-70%

 Cash: ~30-50%

NEUTRAL

 Risk per trade: 0.50%

 Positions: 2-3

 Total risk: ~1.5%

 Capital deployed: ~25-35%

 Cash: ~65-75%

BEARISH CLEAR

 Risk per trade: 0%

 Positions: 0

 Total risk: 0%

 Capital deployed: 0-10%

 Cash: ~90-100%

Notice that even at the most aggressive regime, you’re never close to 100% deployed. QUESTION

═══════════════════════════════════════════

You find a stock with a perfect chart. Clean uptrend. Tight base. Volume drying up. Every indicator is aligned. You enter on the breakout — and it fails.

Not because the setup was wrong. Because the market was wrong.

Most traders look at individual stocks first and the market second. They spend hours scanning for setups, then glance at SPY for thirty seconds before pulling the trigger.

The KISS system reverses this entirely. Market first. Stocks second. Always.

───────────────────────────────────────────

THE PRINCIPLE

───────────────────────────────────────────

Think of the stock market as an ocean and individual stocks as boats.

A well-built boat can make excellent progress in calm conditions. But a category-4 hurricane does not care how well-built your boat is. It will sink even the best vessels — because the environment has become hostile to all movement in the intended direction.

Markets move through distinct regimes: periods of clear upward trend, periods of directionless sideways movement, and periods of sustained decline. The probability of any individual trade succeeding is dramatically different depending on which regime is active.

A swing trade in a confirmed uptrend has a very different outcome distribution than the exact same trade in a market where institutions are reducing risk. The chart pattern may look identical. The results will not.

This is why the KISS system treats regime analysis as a prerequisite — not an afterthought, not a secondary check, but the first filter that must be passed before any other analysis begins.

You don’t find stocks and then check the market. You check the market and then find stocks. Sequence matters.

───────────────────────────────────────────

THE METHOD — Three Regimes, One Decision

───────────────────────────────────────────

The KISS system classifies the market into exactly three states. No more. You do not need a nuanced spectrum of ten different conditions. You need a clear decision framework that tells you — every Sunday evening, in under five minutes — how much capital to have at risk.

REGIME 1: BULLISH CLEAR

→ Condition: SPY and QQQ are both trading above their 20 MA, which is above the 200 MA. Both moving averages are sloping upward with meaningful separation.

→ What it means: Institutional capital is flowing into the market. New highs are being made. Leadership stocks are emerging from sound patterns.

→ Your action: Full capital deployment. Trade every valid KISS setup you find. The market tide is with you.

REGIME 2: NEUTRAL

→ Condition: Price is oscillating around the 20 MA. The 20 MA has flattened. Price may still be above the 200 MA, but momentum has stalled.

→ What it means: The market is not declining — but it is not providing the directional thrust that swing trades require. Setups trigger but fail to follow through. Breakouts reverse.

→ Your action: Reduce capital deployment to 30-50%. Trade only the cleanest, highest-quality setups. Many weeks, the right answer is to sit on your hands entirely.

REGIME 3: BEARISH CLEAR

→ Condition: Price is trading below both the 20 MA and 200 MA. The 200 MA has flattened or is sloping downward.

→ What it means: Institutional distribution — selling — is the dominant force. The gravitational pull of the market works against every long trade you place.

→ Your action: Deploy zero to 10% of capital. Cash is not a failure — it is the correct trade.

───────────────────────────────────────────

THE REGIME TABLE

───────────────────────────────────────────

BULLISH CLEAR

MA condition: Price > MA20 > MA200, both slopes rising

 Capital: Full

Action: Trade every valid KISS setup. Tide is with you.

NEUTRAL

MA condition: Price around MA20, MA20 flat, price above MA200

 Capital: 30-50%

Action: Only the cleanest setups. Many weeks: do nothing.

BEARISH CLEAR

MA condition: Price below MA20 and MA200, MA200 flat or declining

 Capital: 0-10%

Action: Protect capital. You are watching its direction over the last two to three releases. Falling CPI = broadly positive for equities. Rising CPI = pressure on stocks from higher rate expectations.

CHECK 2: Federal Reserve Tone

After each FOMC meeting, you need to know one thing: was the tone Hawkish or Dovish? Hawkish = reduce exposure. Dovish = increase exposure. That is the entire framework.

CHECK 3: 10-Year Treasury Yield Direction

When the 10-year yield rises rapidly, institutional capital has an increasingly attractive alternative to equities. Money flows from stocks into bonds. Watch the trend over a two-to-four-week period. Rising sharply = warning signal, particularly for growth stocks.

You are not predicting the economy.
